Our Pathways leadership development programme supports colleagues that aspire to lead, providing the opportunity to develop the skills and behaviours needed to perform at the highest level.

Who is Pathways for?

Who is Pathways for?

Programmes are open to colleagues across all areas of the business. We have two intakes each year and adopt a consistent approach so there's absolute clarity on specific eligibility criteria and selection activity.

All four programmes are designed to support the development of leaders at different levels within the business:

  • Supervising Others: Designed for hourly cleaning supervisors
  • Managing Others: For aspiring first line managers
  • Managing Managers: For managers who want to progress into senior management roles
  • Senior Leader Development: A bespoke programme to support aspiring senior leaders
What does Pathways cover?

What does Pathways cover?

Pathways focuses on our everyday behaviours, leadership values, and what it means to be an effective City leader. Through a blended learning approach colleagues are equipped to manage and lead people, plan and prioritise, coach, communicate, problem solve and make decisions.

Our approach

Classrooms are now delivered remotely and attendees have dedicated channels to communicate with one another and their learning and development lead. Our Learning Management System provides a range of useful and engaging resources to support attendees through the programmes. Delegates now spend less time travelling and being away from work and home, giving them exceptional learning flexibility and a wide range of people and resources to support them.

Over 150 people have completed a Pathways programme at City and 70% of graduates have already progressed into a leadership role. During the 2019/2020 programmes we saw a 75% increase in women delegates, contributing to fair representation in our people development and overall talent.

Life after Pathways

Life after Pathways

Our Pathways alumni have advanced into a wide range of roles including Cleaning Operations Management, Engineering Operations Management, Head Office Support Management and Project and Design Management. Colleagues have also continued onto the next level of Pathways programme into more senior leadership roles. Personal development is something we strive for everyday, even at the highest level, which is an attitude driven by our culture of humility and self reflection.
