The Morrisons ‘Market Kitchen’ concept is to deliver attractively themed in-store food counters delivering a wide range of fresh meals, created by a team of chefs. The format means that customers can have their breakfast, lunch or evening meal freshly made-to-order by a chef, at the same time as they pop in for their groceries.

CBES were appointed by Morrisons to deliver significant alterations inside the Merrion Centre in Leeds. This store in the middle of city centre, next to student accomodation and local university brings a high volume of footfall to the mall which had to be carefully managed during construction to enable continued trading. We worked closely with Morrisons and the Shopping Centre Management Team to agree approach.
The project lasted nine weeks and involved significant alterations to the store including the relocation of existing features, ceiling replacement, floor upgrade, construction of two cold-rooms, set up of mechanical air handling units on the roof of the store and installation of the new ‘Market Kitchen’ facilities.
The work was phased and also carried out overnight to reduce any interruption and included the re-location of existing features, ceiling replacement, floor upgrade, construction of two cold-rooms, setup of air handling equipment on the roof of the store and installation of the new 'Market Kitchen' Facilities

CBES and its supply chain delivered the project during the COVID-19 pandemic on programme, within budget and to the quality expected by the client despite the challenges brought by social distancing and supply/ labour shortages caused by the virus. In addition to this by incorporating a temporary shop into the project the client was able to maintain trade and continue its vital services to its customers until the main store could be reopened again upon completion of the project.
