As part of our ongoing relationship with our client Imagile we were recently awarded an NHS project in Birmingham. The aim of the project was to carry out alterations within the Endoscopy Department at Birmingham Treatment Centre.

Opened in November 2005 the Birmingham Treatment Centre provides state-of-the-art facilities for diagnosis and treatment, including day surgery, an ambulatory surgical unit with six theatres, extensive imaging facilities, an integrated breast care centre and teaching accommodation.

As part of a programme of upgrade and improvement our team were asked to:

  • remove a large pendant within the Endoscopy room and replace with two smaller retractable pendants fixed to a concrete soffit above the ceiling.
  • remove two fixed stainless-steel sinks within the cleaning / disinfection room and replacing them with with two new rise/fall sinks.
  • split an existing storeroom into two separate rooms to provide additional shelving space for the staff
  • create & fit out a new storeroom

CBES also had significant input into the design by proposing alternative layouts from the drawing design plans. We presented various options for possible configurations which were used in the final sign off.

Operationally, the centre was a live environment during the day with patients attending the Centre for treatments, therefore all works were arranged for during the evening / night to minimise disruption to the Hospital and patients’ appointments.

"It has been a pleasure to work alongside CBES for this project. Graham has provided a constant update throughout the works, nothing is to much trouble. Working within the BTC environment can be challenging with so many different stakeholders involved but all issues were resolved b working together. I look forward to working alongside CBES in the future, in particular Graham and Steve"
